Controversies
Shane Warne along with Mark Waugh had claimed that Pakistan captain Salim Malik had offered them money to perform poorly during a match on the tour of Pakistan in 1994. It was stated that an Indian bookmaker had paid Shane Warne $ 5,000 to get some information related to the composition of the Australian team and the state of the pitches for the matches. After the matter was uncovered by the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), Warne was fined $ 8,000.
In 1999, Warne’s comment on then Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga got the game into disrepute. Warne was quoted as saying, “There is plenty of animosity between Arjuna and myself. I don't like him and I'm not in a club of one.”
In 2003, Warne was given one year ban for taking a banned substance, which he claimed was just a fluid tablet.
